Install on macOS
This version is not yet notarized by Apple, so macOS blocks it the first time you open it. Allow it once with the steps below and it opens normally afterwards.
- Unzip the download and drag hintline into your Applications folder.
- Open hintline. When macOS says it cannot be opened or the developer cannot be verified, choose Done or Cancel.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, find hintline near the bottom, choose Open Anyway and confirm with your password.
- If macOS says the app is damaged, run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/hintline.app in Terminal, then open it again.
- hintline runs from the menu bar at the top of your screen and does not appear in the Dock.
Install on Windows
This version is not yet code-signed, so Windows may say it protected your PC.
- Run the downloaded hintline-win-x64.exe.
- When SmartScreen appears, choose More info, then Run anyway.
- Follow the installer. It installs for your user only and needs no administrator rights.
System requirements
- macOS: Apple silicon or Intel. Capturing system audio requires macOS 14.2 or later.
- Windows: 64-bit Windows 10 or later.
- A Hintline account with available usage allowance.
After installing
Sign in to the desktop app with your website account, confirm your allowance, then check your microphone and system audio. See Pricing & access for how to get access.
